Okay let’s face it. Luna and I have the same taste in food. Bread and cheese. Bread and cheese.

But we can’t ALWAYS eat bread and cheese, so sometimes we have to eat vegetables too. Fortunately some veggies like sweet potatoes are still delicious.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries for Dogs

Luna always begs for a piece or five of sweet potato when I’m preparing them in the kitchen, so after reading an easy recipe for sweet potato fries for humans I thought why can’t we make these for dogs too!

Baked Sweet Potato Fries for Dogs

I have never made my own sweet potato fries before, but these were super easy and extra delicious! Way better than frozen.

Although Luna’s fries are edible for humans too, I made mine with olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper (Warning: Not a dog safe recipe). I’m looking forward to trying this recipe with different spice combinations.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries for Dogs

If you are looking for more possibilities for spice combinations, here are some dog safe spices:

Basil
Cinnamon
Coriander (though we are a Cilantro free household)
Dill
Garlic (in small amounts)
Ginger
Marjoram
Oregano
Parsley
Rosemary
Sage
Tarragon
Thyme
Turmeric

As with anything if you try any new spices, be sure to keep an eye on your dog!

Have you ever made your own sweet potato fries?

Hi, should the end result be really hard or soft on the inside but crispy on the outside? I followed ur recipe but my sweet potato fries turned out either too hard or my 2nd try with softer insides became soggy after awhile. Please help!

    1) 425°F = 218°C correct?
    2) Should I be using the top + lower heat or only the top/lower heat in my oven toaster? – I did with top + lower heat previously
    3) Should I slot my baking tray at the top, medium or lowest slot? – I did with medium slot previously
    4) Should airtight box of sweet potato fries be kept in the fridge or not?
    5) How long can I keep it for?

    Thanks!

    • beaglesbargains

It will depend on how thick you cut the fries. In general, fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would keep sweet potato fries in the fridge and they will probably only last a few days.

If you want them crunchier, try cutting them thinner. You can also try sweet potato chips. These can be left out of the fridge and will keep longer. Here’s my recipe for those – http://www.beaglesandbargains.com/healthy-super-bowl-snacks-sweet-potato-chips-dogs/

      • Wai

Do I bake the sweet potato fries or chips with top + bottom heat or only the top heat? And is it right to slot the baking tray in the middle slot?

  • Whitney Lowry

    How long will these keep?

    • beaglesbargains

A few days in the fridge!

  • Sue
