When I’m not at work writing code or at home blogging about dogs or out on an adventure making Luna pose for a thousand photos, I can often be found frolicking through my apartment humming or singing a song. You know those songs that just weasel themselves into your head and you are stuck singing them all day? Yes, those songs.

And yes, because I know you were wondering, sometimes a choreographed dance is also performed.

One of the songs that I find myself frequently singing is “You Are My Sunshine.” It might actually be more serenading than singing, but Luna doesn’t want to talk about it.

For the longest time, I didn’t realize that “You Are My Sunshine” wasn’t actually a very happy song. The title is a bit misleading since the song is actually about the singer’s love interest not reciprocating the same feelings. And that’s why I primarily stick to the song’s chorus in my musical performances.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

Despite the real meaning of the song, I can relate a lot to the chorus with my relationship with Luna. She is my sunshine and can certainly brighten any bad day. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express how much happiness she brings and how much love I have for her, but I work towards that every single day.

And now that I’ve babbled long enough about my musical skills (or lack there of), here is one of my current favorite photos of Luna.

Luna is my sunshine and can brighten any bad day.

Do you sing to your dog?
