Today is Luna’s Fourth Birthday! So naturally we are celebrating in style.
We have a trip planned to a local dog park. We might swing by PetSmart to pick up her free Birthday treat. And Luna is going to enjoy the most delicious birthday burgers ever.
I was first introduce to WellyTails back in October when Luna tried out their Fortified Wild Ocean Fish Oil Omega-3 Blend. We loved it then and are still using it today!
I had the privilege of meeting a few fantastic employees of WellyTails while at the Global Pet Expo, where I came up with the idea to make Luna WellyChef Stuffed Birthday Burgers. That’s right, these babies are stuffed with delicious cheese!
The recipe itself is pretty easy as WellyChef already is packed full of flavor and nutrition.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp WellyChef for Turkey
- 1/2 lb Lean Ground Turkey
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup Shredded Natural Cheese
Instructions
- Mix the WellyChef, turkey, and egg in a bowl.
- Take a spoonful of the mixture (about 1/12th of it) and press it in your hands to form in a patty.
- Add a pinch of cheese on top of the patty.
- Form another patty and place on top of cheese.
- Pinch the edges to seal the cheese inside.
- Place on a baking sheet and press down in the middle of the patty slightly with your thumb.
- Once all burger patties have been formed, bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes or until center is 160 degrees F.
Normally Luna just gets the burger patties alone, but for the sake of photos and for Luna’s Birthday Burger, I used water crackers as a “bun”. The crackers I used contained only Enriched Wheat Flour, Sunflower Oil, Salt, and Sugar.
You can make these burgers with any ground meat you (or your dog) prefer. Just make sure you get the right WellyChef recipe to match. One variety is meant for Chicken, Duck, or Farmed Atlantic Salmon/Tilapia while the other is better for Beef, Bison, Lamb, Pork or Turkey. You can also add a bit of Wild Ocean Fish Oil to the burger when you serve it!
