Two weeks ago we brought home, Ralph, our first foster dog ever. I had considered fostering before and always want to help with rescue, but didn’t know if I could provide a good foster home. Of course I take care of Luna and would do the same for any foster dog, but I didn’t know if I could even handle two dogs.
But, a local rescue – Homeward Trails – sent out an urgent request for fosters of dogs that came from shocking situations. Part of the cause of my hiatus in January was because I was searching for purpose. I was seeking something I could dedicate myself to, something that would allow me to feel like I was making a difference, and maybe even something I could write about. I thought this might be it.
It also helped that Winter Storm Jonas was coming. Let’s be honest – DC can’t handle snow. Especially not 2.5+ feet of snow. Everything was shutting down and you couldn’t find bread or milk anywhere, so I knew I would be working from home on Friday and had a hunch I would be working from home the first part of the next week as well.
I thought, “Perfect!” This would give any foster dog a chance to adjust to our apartment and routine. It would also allow Luna and a foster dog a opportunity to get to know each other under my supervision before I left them alone.
So I jumped in and we agreed to foster little Ralph.
I’m happy to say that two weeks later things are going really well! Ralph is a real sweetheart and I’m working on putting together a blog post all about him. I know you really want the juicy details, but for now you will have to settle for about a million photos of Luna and Ralph “swimming” their way through over 2.5 feet of snow.
Have you had any recent snow days?
