Stocking Stuffer Giveaway - Day 14 - Solvit HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer

Each Stocking Stuffer Giveaway is sponsored by the brand that is featured. Each brand has agreed to sponsor and provide the designated giveaway prizes. For their inclusion in the Stocking Stuffer Giveaways promotion, these brands have paid and/or provided product free to review. However, Beagles and Bargains will only feature products that Luna and I actually use and truly love.

I am fortunate to live very close to part of the W&OD trail, which is a 45 mile long trail that runs along what used to be the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad. This past Spring, my boyfriend and I started actively riding our bikes on this trail and even splurged a bit of fancy bike gear. I really enjoyed getting outside and enjoying the beautiful weather, but I was always a little disappointed that I couldn’t bring Luna with me. There are many parks accessible from the trail and I wished I could bring Luna along with us for a day at the park or a nice picnic.

I started to look for some solutions, but really only found bike baskets, which wouldn’t hold Luna or trailers meant for baby humans. It wasn’t until I discovered Solvit’s HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer that I found a product I was really happy with.

Stocking Stuffer Giveaway - Day 14 - Solvit HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer

The HoundAbout II is a bicycle trailer that is specifically made with pets in mind and was redesigned in 2013 to be more comfortable for four legged friends. The trailer features ventilated mesh windows, a padded cushion, pockets for storage, and a leash hook to keep your dog secure.

There is a bit of assembly required for this trailer, but after the first time, everything is pretty quick. The HoundAbout II attaches to the rear wheel of a bike in no time and it stores flat!

The HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer comes in two different sizes. The medium trailer (red) can hold pets up to 50 lbs and features a 26″ x 17″ x 20″ cabin. The large trailer (blue) fits pets up to 110 lbs and features a larger cabin at 33″ x 22″ x 26″.

I am anticipatedly waiting for the weather to get warmer, so Luna and I can hit the trails in our new HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer!

The bicycle trailer can also become a stroller with Solvit’s Stroller Conversion Kit. The kit comes with an extra front wheel, handle for pushing, a brake to keep the stroller in place, and even a cup holder. There is a bit of assembly to convert the trailer into a stroller, but again it is pretty easy after the first time. If you are not too worried about aerodynamics of the bicycle trailer you can leave on the handle and brake (of course, not on) of the stroller even when it is attached to a bike.

The stroller is a bit large and is not something that I will use on a daily basis, but I think it is an excellent and comfortable way to transport elderly, injured, or sick dogs, especially if they are larger in size.

Stocking Stuffer Giveaway - Day 14 - Solvit HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer and Stroller Conversion Kit

If you think the HoundAbout II Bicycle Trailer is for you, I would definitely recommend introducing your dog to it slowly. I built the stroller and encouraged Luna to go inside to find a treat. Once she was inside I hooked her in with her harness and zipped up the windows. I left her inside for a few minutes while the stroller was still and praised her. Then I started moving her around a little bit to get her accustomed to what riding in the trailer would feel like. To make things more comfortable, I also put one of her old beds inside. When we went outside for a test ride, Luna was comfortable and ready to hit the road!

You can find Solvit products at various in store and online locations. Right now, the medium trailer is available at Petco for $244.99 and at Amazon for $188.33. The large trailer is available at Petco for $286.01 and at Amazon for $230.70.
