Welcome to Day 2 of our Stocking Stuffer Giveaways!
I love the month of December. Everything and everyone seems so festive and cheery. It starts to smell like snow (even though it hardly ever snows here) and there is candy everywhere.
One tradition I love doing during December is counting down to Christmas with an Advent Calendar.
Advent Calendars come is so many shapes and sizes. Some are even virtual like Kol’s Notes’ Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers!
Normally, I just have a cardboard calendar with not so tasty pieces of chocolate. This year I have been in a craft and bake EVERYTHING kind of mood, so I decided to make our own Advent Calendars.
The calendar I made for my boyfriend and I isn’t the prettiest thing, but it gets the job done. I picked up a few green jewelry bags from the dollar store and two mini stockings. I filled each bag with two pieces of chocolate and a number, then hung them up on the wall with the stockings representing the December 1 and Christmas Day!
Luna’s Advent Calendar is a little bit more put together.
I used a mini Christmas tree I had picked up on after Christmas clearance (where all my decorations come from) and tied on various treats to the branches with Christmas ribbon. We used Old Mother Hubbard P’Nut Butter Nutters and a few dog bagels, but any of your dogs favorite treats that could be attached with a ribbon will work.
Each treat also has a number to indicate when Luna can eat it. I put them on randomly, but if you like order you could put them on numerically as well.
The tree topper is a large bone and bow combo, which can only be enjoyed on Christmas Day!
If you do make your doggie his or her own Advent Calendar, be sure to keep it somewhere high and out of reach. You wouldn’t want them to spoil the surprise treats for all of December.
It’s never too late to make your own. You just get to eat the first few days right away!
Another great calendar to start thinking about is a calendar for the new year! We always have a calendar in our kitchen, which keeps track of important appointments and when Luna is due for her medicine.
If you haven’t found your perfect 2014 calendar, you are in luck, because I have acquired an adorable 2014 Puppy Calendar.
