I remember always having the best time reading the Sunday comics as I was growing up. One of my favorite comics to read was the MUTTS. I’m pretty sure my mom even mailed me some clipped from her newspaper when I was still in college. There has always been something engaging and just overall awesome about the two animal stars of the comic strip, so I was thrilled when I was contacted to help spread the word about a new MUTTS book!

Luna and her favorite comcics from The Mutts Winter Diaries

The MUTTS Comic Strip was created by Patrick McDonnell in 1994 and now appears in over 700 newspapers in 20 countries. The comic features Earl, a mutt with a big heart, and his feline pal Mooch, who has his own way of thinking and talking. It shares their adventures as they interact with each other, humans, and other furry friends in the neighborhood, so it tackles all kinds of different situations.

I’m not the only one who loves the MUTTS Comic Strip. Famed Peanuts creator, Charles Schulz, once described MUTTS as “One of the best comic strips of all time.” That’s pretty big praise!

The Mutts Winter Diaries

So what is this about a new book? The Mutts Winter Diaries is a brand new graphic novel style collection of MUTTS Comics. In fact it is so new that it won’t be released until October 13, 2015! But, we have a way for you to get your paws on a copy even sooner!

The Mutts Winter Diaries is the second MUTTS collection book made just for kids, but trust me adults will enjoy it too! The book features some great characters in addition to Earl and Mooch, including Shtinky Puddin’, Sourpuss, Guard Dog, Bip and Bop, and Crabby! This book is an all around great way to teach kids about how to treat and respect animals.

The MUTTS and Animal Advocacy

MUTTS creator Patrick McDonnell is very involved with many animal charities and is even on the board of directors for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Fund for Animals. McDonnell actively promotes an animal friendly philosophy and animal advocacy on his website and through the MUTTS Comic Strip.

The MUTTS characters even appear on the New Jersey Animal Friendly license plates that fund state pet population programs! I wish we had them on our Virginia Animal Friendly license plates too!

On top of that, McDonnell is conscience of the MUTTS environmental impact, so all of the MUTTS books, including The Mutts Winter Diaries, are printed on recycled paper.

More MUTTS Swag!

To coincide with the release of the new book, The Mutts Winter Diaries, Richard Leeds International has designed a cozy nightshirt to give you the sweetest of dreams. You can find the new nightshirt in the MUTTS online store. It’s one size fits most and costs only $20!
