Yesterday we celebrated Beagles and Bargains First Blogiversary and kicked off a whole week of giveaways.
One of the opportunities that I have loved from blogging on Beagles and Bargains is learning about brand new pet products.
The blogging journey and my experience with Luna has also taught me that it is better to be prepared for the worst than to hope it never comes.
Beagles have the tendency to follow their nose, which could result in a certain Luna wandering off in search of the source of an intriguing smell.
Fortunately there are many products which help me feel a bit more prepared in case that were ever to happen.
There is no replacement for micro-chipping your dog and having him or her wear an ID tag, but mobiPET, the first ever amber alert for pets, is a great supplement.
Unlike many other lost pet programs, mobiPET works right when your pet goes missing. The process is triggered when the owner texts LOST to mypet@agm.twby. An amber alert like message containing a photo is sent to all registered animal shelters, veterinarians, boarding facilities, groomers, and pet stores within a 30 mile radius of where the pet was reported missing and to all registered pet owners within a 2 mile radius.
This way all registered parties will know who to contact in the event your pet ends up at their shelter, office, or home.
To register your pet, you need to purchase a mobiPET tag, which comes with a special ID. After receiving your tag, you need to register either online or with your cell phone. Specific instructions come with each tag.

Each mobiPET tag costs $24.95 and has an annual renewal fee of $9.95. However, mobiPET is waiving the $9.95 annual fee forever for all pre-orders made through March 31, 2014! You can pre-order your very own mobiPET tag online.
To help build the community and to give back, mobiPET also offers a $10 donation to shelters and veterinarian offices for each referral.
The best part is that mobiPET still works if your pet’s collar with the ID falls off. Texting LOST to mypet@agm.twby will always send the amber alert message out! Just like a regular ID tag, the mobiPET tag helps recognize that a pet is lost and gives the person who finds your pet a contact option.
