I love heading outside to get in touch with nature, especially when the weather is nice. Spending some quality time outside is almost always pet friendly, so Luna can come along too. We mix things up between hiking, biking, and camping with a bit of winery hopping and picnicking!

Our last big outdoor adventure was when we visited Great Falls National Park. We hiked into the park from a smaller trail and I’m glad we did. It was far less busy that the main parts of the park. Since there was far less foot traffic on that trail, it was also a bit more “real” in terms of the plants and animals we saw.

We saw a lot of wild mushrooms and fungus growing, so of course I had to keep a special watch to make sure Luna wasn’t enticed into eating anything she wasn’t supposed to.

We also came across multiple rock statues! Looks like the rock trolls were saying hi and welcoming us!

Since we weren’t too far from Great Falls, the trail was pretty swampy. Fortunately they had a few bridges to help keep our feet and paws dry.

We also spotted a deer when we got pretty close to the falls. I was so proud of Luna for not barking, which let us get fairly close to the deer. He even posed for the camera a bit!

Once we made it all the way to the big falls, we saw three kayakers making their way down. This is super, super dangerous, so I hadn’t actually seen anyone do it before. These three were definitely very experienced, which allowed them to make it down with no issues.

And then on our way back, I spotted this beautiful butterfly on the ground. A couple other people walked by as I was taking pictures, which drew attention to the butterfly. Many stopped to take in her beauty, so she gained quite the audience!
