As with most things, higher quality usually also comes with a higher price tag. If you are going to invest in high quality products for your dog, then the absolute top priority should be their food. While we all wish we could give our pets the very best all the time, life unfortunately tends to get into the way. We all have to deal with our budgets and personal circumstances.

Caru Pet Food, who I have always known for their high quality human-grade stew meals for dogs, recently launched another line of stews known as Daily Dish.
Daily Dish Stews were designed to allow pet parents a way to provide a nourishing stew meal to their beloved dogs every single day. And the best part? It tastes just like you (or someone you know who likes to cook) made it right at home! Though these recipes are available for purchase at a lower price point than their Classic Stews they are held to many of the same high standards. These standards, also known as Caru’s Pledge, are one of the vary reason we love their products so much!
Each Daily Dish Stew recipe is made with non-GMO ingredients and without a single ingredient from China. And of course there are no preservatives or artificial flavors and colors. Everything is made in small batches according to human food regulations (not just pet regulations!) and slow cooked at low temperatures to ensure the good, nourishing stuff stays locked into each bite.
Daily Dish Stews are also a limited ingredient diet, which is great for dogs with sensitive stomachs or food allergies. AND it features a super savory gravy that will entice your dog to eat and even help keep them hydrated. I think this is one of my favorite parts of Caru’s Stews because we’ve had some hydration problems with Luna in the past. It’s even more of a concern now that we have moved to Colorado (from Virginia) where there is much less moisture in the air.
While I didn’t personally try one of Caru’s Daily Dish Stews, I did see the reaction it got from Luna. As soon as I opened up a carton, her little nose went crazy. She had to have herself some of that stew! It proved to make taking photos a bit of a challenge. A Beagle mix can only hold her stay for so long when there is a tasty food present. She definitely got a few tastes here and there during our photo shoot and she was more than happy to eat up the leftovers with dinner that night. Based on her reaction, I think even picky eaters would be intrigued by the new stews.
Another feature that I am so glad Caru carried over to the Daily Dish Stews from their Classic Stews is the use of Tetra Pak® cartons for the packaging. Have you ever thought of how much waste just pet food containers alone create? Caru definitely considered that when they were searching for a way to store and transport their delicious stews and landed on Tetra Pak®.
These cartons are actually made of 70% paper, which is a renewable resource and bit more gentle on the environment. Another fun fact is that it actually requires about 1/3 of the amount of packaging of a can! That means there is about 60% less waste compared to the can when you take recycling into account. WOW!
Not only that, but Tetra Pak® cartons take up significantly less space than cans. This is super important if you tend to stock up on your pets food. Pantry space is prime real estate… at least in my house! I personally also think that the carton design and its lighter weight make it a better choice when traveling, especially if you need to pack for a long term road trip.
Another handy tip is that the Tetra Pak® cartons are specially designed to be easy to open and serve. These handy packages are also intended to be resealable, so you can close, store, and even travel with your leftovers to be used later.
Of course, you can’t discuss pet food packaging without talking about if the flavor of the food is impacted. (This is a Beagle’s blog after all.) The answer is no, it’s not! The packaging perfectly preserves freshness and taste without the preservatives. And of course, it’s BPA-free!
All in all, we’re really excited about Caru’s newest edition, Daily Dish Stews! Ralph and Luna enjoy every delicious bit and I love everything Caru stands for.
