My biggest fault as a pet parent is working a 9-5 job about 30 minutes away from where I live. There is nothing wrong with being a working pet parent. If there were no working pet parents, so many more pets would still be searching for forever homes. I do know, however, that working away from home can limit Luna’s exercise and bathroom access during the day.
We make it work by taking walks in the morning and evening, having play time after I get home, and going on outdoor adventures on the weekends.
Luna typically does great by napping during the day and playing with her toys to keep herself occupied, but occasionally there is an accident. It is rare, but it does happen.
It might be because my day was a little big longer than normal or it might be because we mixed up her regular diet a bit. No matter what, I have come to understand that when there is an accident it is by no means her fault. I get mad at myself for not being there for her and I have always preferred that Luna handle her business than harm her health by trying to keep it all in.
Sure, it is messy and definitely isn’t pleasant to clean up, but her health is the most important thing to me so I suck it up and get the cleaning done.
This is also why I look for products to make cleaning up pet and other messes super easy and, well, less gross. When I got the chance to try out BISSELL’s SpotBot® Pet, I jumped for joy. I’m really excited to tell you about how it has been working for us and give you the chance to win one yourself!
What is the BISSELL SpotBot Pet?
The SpotBot Pet is made by BISSELL®, who is well known in the world of vacuums and floor care. The SpotBot Pet is a portable carpet cleaner designed for households with pets in mind.
The machine has various preset cleaning cycles and depending on what is selected, it will automatically move through various modes to deep clean the carpet. The automatic mode uses Deep Reach™ Technology to get deep into carpet fibers and really get rid of pet stains and odors permanently. The Unique Spiral Brushing® also makes it easier for the SpotBot to lift stains and debris out of the carpet.
SpotBot Pet also comes equipped with a hand held hose and clean tool, which can be used on upholstery, stairs, and even car interiors!
How Does the BISSELL SpotBot Pet Work?
The BISSELL SpotBot Pet is portable, but does need to be plugged in to work. To clean up a stain, you need to first load the tank with hot tap water (but not boiling) up to the fill line, then add 1 oz of BISSELL’s 2X Pet Stain & Odor Formula (or 2X Spot & Stain Formula). You can also add a splash of OXYgen BOOST Formula to help fight tougher set-in stains. Once the tank is full, tighten the cap and place it back on the SpotBot.
Then you just need to plug in the SpotBot and set the circle or brush down, centered on top of the stain you are trying to remove. For bigger stains, you might need to run the cycle multiple times. And, you’ll want to make sure that you remove any excess debris or liquid from the stain first. I usually just try to soak up as much as I can with our dedicated “dog towels”.
From here, all you need to do is determine if the stain is a surface stain or a set-in stain and pick the appropriate preset cycle on the machine. The Surface Stain Cycle will run for about 3 minutes, while the Set-In Stain runs for twice as long at 6 minutes. Both of these cycles are completely hands free!
You can also use your SpotBot in Manual Mode with the hose and are able to pause, resume, and stop the cycle in case something comes up while it is running and you need to adjust.
Once the SpotBot Pet indicates that the cycle is complete (through beeping), you can remove it from the stain to inspect and verify that the whole stain has been removed. Then, just let the spot continue to dry.
Pros and Cons of the BISSELL SpotBot Pet
I have really enjoyed using the BISSELL SpotBot Pet and plan to continue using it regularly in our apartment. I have had great success with removing pet stains from urine and dirt as well as food and wine stains. You know that time I thought it would be a good idea to let Luna eat watermelon on the carpet? Thank goodness for our SpotBot!
I love that it is easy to use and super portable. You do have to plug it in, which makes using it in our car a bit challenging, but that gives the machine the power it needs to really clean the carpet and remove stains.
I’m also a big fan that the formula is concentrated and affordable, so you aren’t paying for water that you already have access to. It also helps each bottle go a long way!
However, it is a bit challenging to use the BISSELL SpotBot Pet for only one small stain since the tank holds enough water for several runs of their Set-In Stain Cycle. If I had only one small stain, I found myself searching throughout my apartment for other places to run it, so that I wouldn’t waste the solution or that it wouldn’t be sitting in the tank for several days. I’d love for BISSELL to provide more approximate measurements, so that the machine can be used on a smaller number of stains more easily.
It also might be important to know that the BISSELL SpotBot Pet is not a quiet machine, so timid pets might actually be a bit scared of it. Luna was a bit frightened, but was fine if she was able to sit on the other side of the room. My biggest complaint is that you couldn’t hear the TV over it. If I have a hands free machine, I might as well sit back and put my feet up while it does its job, right?
