Each and every dog enjoys a different style of play. Some could fetch a ball for hours while others don’t really know what a ball is for. Some pups just want to run and others would prefer to dig a giant hole in your backyard. Some dogs love puzzles and food dispensing toys while others would rather have a squeak fest with a soft and cuddly toy. No matter what your dog’s style of play is, doing it has a lot of value.

Want an extra added bonus? Playing with your dog can benefit YOU too! We’ll spell out several of the benefits for both you and your dog below, but just know playing with your dog makes you both happier and healthier.

Benefits of Outside Playtime for You & Your Dog

Exercise

Obviously a good game of fetch is going to provide a lot of good physical exercise for your dog as they run back and forth delivering the ball or other toy back to you. Thankfully, the Chuckit! Launcher has made throwing the ball further distances and a thousand times in a row easier and easier to allow your dog to get all the exercise they need or want. You may not expect it, but by playing with your dog you are actually getting exercise too! You may not be running a marathon, but you’re up and moving a whole lot more than if you were just sitting on the couch. Plus, eventually your dog is going to get distracted and you’ll have to be the one that does the fetching at some point!

Socialization

Getting out of the house is pretty much the only way to meet other people and dogs. Going to the dog park or getting out on a popular hiking trail is a great way to get yourself a little face time with other humans and their dogs. Plus, it’s not hard to escape if it’s too busy, a bad experience, or just awkward. As a super introvert, I know that WANTING to be around other people and NEEDING it are two different things, so I’m constantly look for socialization opportunities for both me and my dogs that only require small blocks of time.

Everyone has a different level of how much face time they actually need. No matter where you and your dog are on the spectrum, remember that socialization can reduce social anxiety and improve confidence for you both.

Mental Health & Stimulation

A healthy mind is the key to a healthy life. You can be super fit, but if you don’t exercise your mind other issues will crop up. The same goes for Fido! Getting outside and playing encourages problem solving, teamwork, strategy, and even flexibility when the unexpected happens. All of these are great ways to flex your brain and improve your brain power.

Improved Human-Animal Bond

Spending quality time with your dog is only going to improve your overall relationship and bond. If you complement playtime with some outdoor training it will only improve even more. You’ll be working together as a team, depending on each other – to throw the ball or to fetch it.

A Smile

There’s nothing that puts a smile on my face better than seeing my dogs run around like wild hooligans. I love seeing them without a care in the world and enjoying a bit of fresh air. Even when I’m in the grinchiest, grumpiest mood ever, I can’t help but smile and laugh every time Ralph launches himself from one end of the dog park to the other at 100 mph and tackles an unsuspecting Luna, who naturally retaliates by battling him in a game of Bitey Face. It’s a fabulous way to end or even start a long day.

The RingChaser Launcher utilizes some of the same design features of the Classic Launcher, but instead of a ball, it launches a ring. The ring’s shape causes it to erratically bounce, zig-zag, and roll away making the game a bit more exciting! I was super excited about this new addition because both my dogs don’t know how balls work. The UltraRing excited both of them to run around and chase after it.

In addition to the RingChaser Launcher, Chuckit! also recently added a few Breathe Right toys designed to help facilitate your dog’s breathing and airflow during play. Right now, they have a Breathe Right Ball and Breathe Right Fetch Stick. If you already have a Classic Chuckit! Launcher, then the ball is compatible with it!

If you are planning to order a new Chuckit! toy or two for your dog this holiday season, be sure to sign up for Ebates to get an extra bit of cashback! If you don’t already have an account, you can use my referral link to get a free $10 gift card with your first $25+ purchase.
