Virginia’s winter weather is always a bit odd. We get snow, but it’s usually not more than a few inches. It is almost guaranteed that it will melt within 48 hours and just turn into a bunch of gross slush. However, every time that snow is forecasted it is in fact the end of the world. Based on everyone else’s reactions, if you are not out stocking up on milk, toilet paper, salt, and shovels then you will in fact not survive the 1 inch snowfall. Fortunately, I buy my toilet paper at Costco, so I’m ready for anything!

We did enjoy a bit of snow earlier this week that did actually stick around for longer than normal, so I was able to snap a few really WINTER photos for our 52 Snapshots of Life photo challenge this week. To go with our wintery photos, I have also rounded up some great resources to keep your dog safe and warm this winter.

52 Snapshots of Life: WINTER - Snowy tree branches

Finding the perfect winter coat can be a challenge. Luna’s current winter wear includes the Adventure Jacket from Alcott. If you are looking for a Winter Dog Coat, Barks & Swagger has great tips on what to look for and where to find one.

52 Snapshots of Life: WINTER - Luna in the snow

Luna also wears Pawz to keep her paws dry and protected. For more ways to keep dog paws safe during the winter, check out My Brown Newfies’ tips.

I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to the cold, so most of our outside time is limited to bathroom walks. I do try to engage Luna in activity when we are stuck inside though. Sometimes we just play with toys and run around in our small apartment. Kol’s Notes has more great ideas on indoor dog games.

  • These are awesome photos! The first one looks like it should be on a postcard or in a magazine! Really great work, Jess! Thanks for playing along with us! I really love seeing everyone’s #52Snapshots pictures!

  • She is so cute! Great photos. Luna could be a distant relative of our Charlie Brown πŸ™‚

  • Cathy Keisha

I love her little booties. I keep warm by staying indoors although it’s only 67 in here too.

  • Awesome shots! I love your coat. β™₯

  • Emma

Nice winter paw shots. We only wear shoes if it is more than -10, otherwise no shoes or coats for us. We love the cold.

  • Cathy C Bennett

Love the coat, but I don’t think I could ever get Harley to wear booties!

    • beaglesbargains

They definitely take some getting used to. Luna isn’t a huge fan of getting them put on, but once we are outside you can’t even tell a difference.

  • Great shots of Luna. We do a lot of things like Pawz booties, Mushers Secret, lots of layers, and making sure not to stay out too long. TY for the tips.

    • beaglesbargains

Excellent ideas! I’ve been meaning to try Mushers Secret.

  • Jan K, Wag N Woof Pets

I love your winter photos. Even up here in New England, where we should be used to it, people rush to the stores whenever there is a snowstorm coming. I work in a general store, and we’re usually busy on the snowy days as well, so it’s not like anyone is stranded and not going out!
Our Lab mix Luke is in need of coats, the deep cold we’ve been having with all the snow on the ground has him shivering. I just ordered a fleece jacket for him, but if that one doesn’t do what we want, I’ll be back to look at other recommendations for coats.

    • beaglesbargains

I’d definitely recommend going with something waterproof since you get so much snow! I really love the Alcott Adventure Jacket because it is and it also has a belly piece. You could also get a rain coat and layer it on top of your fleece.

  • That has to be one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen. My goodness. I just want to scoop her up and squeeze her! I love the jacket too. Thanks for sharing your fashion know-how for pets. πŸ™‚

    • beaglesbargains

Aww thank you! She can be pretty cute sometimes!

  • Winter looks so good there. We don’t have any snow where we are… and it hasn’t been that cold. Believe me, I’m not bragging. πŸ™ We love the Pawz boots too… except we use them in the summer for the hot pavement and sometimes when it rains. Your pictures are great!

  • Love the winter gear! I’m a wimp with the cold, too. Mauja and Atka absolutely love it though!

  • Miss Harper Lee

Luna is looking super stylish and warm in your beautiful photos. Where I live, we have tropical storms and experience the same pre-storm run on toilet paper . . . and Pop Tarts. Humans are funny. πŸ˜‰

  • KolchakPuggle

We’re having jacket drama here again. I don’t know why I haven’t just broken down, draped a pattern on Kol and gone ahead and made him that Gor-tex rip off jacket I know I want for him. LOL.

I’m so impressed Miss Luna will wear those boots! She’s very fancy.

    • beaglesbargains

A custom made jacket? Now that sounds fancy!

  • GlamistaHome

Daisy hates the cold outdoors and often she hides from me when it’s time to go outside. She really doesn’t like the snow. She wears sweaters and jackets, but I haven’t tried booties on her yet. How long did it take to get Luna used to wearing these. Did she try to take them off?

    • beaglesbargains

Luna is still not a fan of having them put on. She doesn’t really try to take them off, but she will stand awkwardly while we are inside if she has them on. Once we go outside she is completely fine and is actually more active outside in cold/wet weather than if she didn’t have them on.

  • Beautiful photos!! Great idea to keep busy with some games when you can’t get enough stimulation from long walks outdoors. Keep warm and cozy!
