It’s been a busy, busy summer here at the Beagles & Bargains household and I know I’ve got some explaining to do about why I haven’t been posting as regularly this summer. We have some big exciting changes coming SOON, so I hope you don’t hold it against me too much.

These changes have taken almost all of my time the last month, so I haven’t had the time to just sit down and write to let our Beagles & Bargains family know what’s going on. Instead, we made a fun video, which I hope you enjoy!

Don’t get the ring joke? My boyfriend and I have been dating for nearly 9 years, so you could say we’ve been asked about it a few times.

That’s right… We’re moving!

We’re not only moving, but we’re moving cross country all the way from Northern Virginia to the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. It’s a HUGE change for both myself and my boyfriend, but we’re really excited for the new adventure and I think the dogs will both enjoy it too.

Though we made the decision in early June, it felt like it came on pretty suddenly because we were actually out of the country visiting family in Scotland for the last two weeks of June! And, there is really never enough time for a big move.

This is the biggest move I’ve ever had to do and a first for me in that I’ll be more than just a few hours drive from my parents. I have grown up in the Northern Virginia area and lived here for most of my adult life, so it’s definitely bittersweet. I still love this area despite the ridiculous housing market, unbearable traffic, humidity, and political overtones. Northern Virginia will always be home.

So while I’m sad to leave friends and family behind and some AMAZING restaurants, I’m really excited to go on a new adventure with Ralph, Luna, and my boyfriend. We have a swanky new apartment with a 1/4 acre dog park in the community and a dedicated office space for both myself and my boyfriend. Plus, the kitchen is bigger! I’m really excited about that and am hoping to cook more. So maybe more dog treat recipes soon?

I’m also thrilled to be able to explore a new area especially all that Denver and Colorado have to offer. I actually visited for the very first time earlier this month and was blown away with the gorgeous mountain views, so I’m really pumped to get out and enjoy the outdoors with Ralph & Luna!

We have an announcement! See what we've been up to lately and what big changes are about to happen.

The past few weeks have been a lot of work and not a lot of fun. We’ve been trying our very best to down size and sell off furniture or donate. I’m a bit of a pack rat and I find sentimental value in a lot of things, so that’s always challenging for me. Plus, dealing with people via Craigslist isn’t always fun and easy. But, we’ve almost made our way through it. We still have a bit to pack this weekend and a few more things to get rid of, but we’re nearly there!

So when are we actually making the move? August 2!

YOU MEAN THIS AUGUST SECOND? Yes, the one that is looming dangerously close and is now less than a week away. I said SOON, didn’t I?

Luna gets ready for our move and another pet friendly road trip

We’ll be doing another cross country road trip with the dogs. Though we are planning to tow a small trailer we are having most of our belongings shipped. The first week may be pretty interesting without all our stuff, but we’ll make it work!

So wish us luck and stay tuned for more posts coming soon! Keep an eye out specifically for tips on how to do a cross country move with dogs (successfully or not…) and recaps on our road trip and Colorado adventures.

Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to the cold and snow actually. And it’s not cold in the summer though it doesn’t quite last as long as here in VA.

Crates or locked doors are your friends during the moving in/out process. You don’t need any escapees – especially in a new place.

With cell phones, it is less important because you probably are not changing your number but make sure the dog tags & microchips are up to date.

Label one or two boxes as open first with one set of bed linens, critical kitchen items (coffee maker if you do coffee, a couple cups/plates/utensils), a couple rolls of TP, etc.

As soon as you get in the new place, unpack a place to sleep & the other critical item box. You don’t want to be completely exhausted & trying to figure out how to assemble a bed frame at 2 am. Just assemble & make the bed first.

Oh so lucky – I do envy you and all. I kind of consider that whole area my wanna-be 2nd home. Been there a few times and the great thing about living in Denver – you can access so many other great areas within a reasonable time like Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon area. Not to mention such a wide variety of great vacation areas.

I agree with Carolyn – you will need some critical items when you first get there.

Huge congratulations to you!! You are going to LOVE it in Denver!! I have a few family members who relocated there and they LOVE IT! One was born and raised in Virginia, her husband was born and raised in Michigan, they have been there at least 5 years now and love it! Also, my niece moved there from NYC about a year ago and adores Denver! I also have some college friends who live there. Wishing you the best of luck I am CERTAIN you are going to be BEYOND HAPPY THERE!!

Oh wow, I didn’t realize you were going so soon. What an exciting time, and I’m sure stressful too. Good luck with the move, hope it all goes smoothly, and have a safe trip! Thanks so much for finding time to help me in the midst of your busy time too!

  • Christine Aiello

Congratulations on the new move! I hope the move goes smoothly! Good luck! I’m sure you will all love Colorado! It’s supposed be beautiful! I’ve always wanted to go there.

  • Shauna Freidel

Congratulations and good luck on your move! We love CO and have thought about moving there as well someday. I don’t have any grand moving tip ideas, except to make sure to label all of your boxes well. Best of luck on your move!

How exciting! A handful of my friends have moved from California to Colorado because the cost of living has gotten so high here. Denver is one of the places I’d consider moving to if we ever left CA. However, my wife would never leave CA so I guess we’ll only be in Denver when we’re on vacation. I hope your road trip went well.
