We did it! We finally moved out of the townhouse that has been causing us so much stress for the past month. Despite last Friday being a blazing 95 degree day with plenty of Northern Virginia humidity, we were able to completely empty the non air conditioned townhouse and split our belongings between our new fourth floor walk up apartment and a storage unit.

We could not have done it without the help of four really awesome guys from My Guys Moving and Storage. I have never had professional movers before and I am a little territorial when it comes to my stuff, so I was concerned. But, moving everything up four flights of stairs on my own on a record heat day really was not an option.

I was so impressed by their work that I just have to rave about them a little. These men were polite, kind, and even fun to work with. They treated me and my belongings with respect despite working a long day in the heat. Although hiring professional movers is expensive, I do not regret the decision at all especially because we were able to complete everything in one day. I would absolutely work with My Guys again, but hopefully we will not be moving for a while!

You may be thinking: FOURTH FLOOR WALK UP?! I am with you, but Luna LOVES it. All I can think about is how fun it is going to be to bring groceries up. Luna on the other hand is thrilled that burning extra calories means even more snacks …or so she thinks. She is so set on making this place our new home that she has already unpacked her box (and maybe eaten half of it). She is also a HUGE help a newspaper shredding as long as you do not mind them a little soggy. Her rent is $40 a month, so she is hiring her services out to make a living. Let us know if you are interested.

Although Luna lost the ability to look out the storm door when we left the townhouse, she can now gaze out windows that are higher than the trees! She can watch all the people, dogs, and wildlife while feeling on top of the world. If you are ever in the Fairfax, Virginia area and happen to hear a Beagle howl from four floors up, it might just be Luna saying hello.

Luna knows her favorite treats are somewhere in this box!

Wow, that does not sound like fun and we have moved a lot…no nightmares even in the two moves to Europe and back.

    • beaglesbargains

Very lucky! or maybe you all are just experts at moving!

  • How about moving from San Francisco to St. Croix USVI and back again to S.F. in less than a year? Mailing all my belongings? Talk about serious insanity…Best of luck to you all in your new digs

OMD! At least we only had to drive a bit down the road. So happy everything worked out for you!

We had to leave our rental before the house we were buying closed. We moved everything into storage except for a pullout couch and pet stuff and stayed in a friends studio guest house. (Some friends cared for the indoor and outdoor plants.) Then we moved it all into our house about 50 days later. Did I mention we’d only been in the rental a few months? Yeah. We moved three times in a nine month period. At least we didn’t go far! (Be extra aware of Luna’s back and shoulders going down all those stairs!)

Good tip about the stairs. I will be sure to keep an eye on her. I’m glad everything worked out in the end. We moved twice in a month, so I know three times could not be fun!!

Hi, Jessica! Glad you found a new place that works. Are you in Fairfax now? I grew up in a neighborhood across from Paul VI High School, on Route 50.

We aren’t too far from there! We are right by the Vienna Metro.

Lulu locked herself in the bathroom accidentally the last time we moved. Does that count? lol!

Oh no!! Hopefully she didn’t dig her way out. That is what Luna would do!

      • lifewithbeagle

No, she just barked her head off as we waited for maintenance.

i used to live in n va. moved there in 1977, left in 2001 b/c i had to move back to nc to care for my mother. lived in dc w/my brother in the beginning, bad section of town. moved to edge of old town, then fairfax, then vienna, then alexandria, near springfield mall. did not have dogs b/c i was at work from 7-6 and did not think fair, mother had my dog i had in college. miss all the activites, arts, etc. not the traffic, but like living in nva better than in nc. hope you like the new apt.

I hope you get the chance to visit! You are definitely right about there being tons of things to do, but the traffic getting there is never fun!
