October 13th is a very special day in our house. Two years ago today, Luna came home for the very first time. And six years ago today, I started dating my boyfriend.

Today we’ll celebrate by going on a long walk, eating some delicious food, and snuggling up to watch a movie. We’ll also reflect on the past year together and look forward to many more awesome years.

On Friday, I shared Luna’s rescue story and just like last year I’ll share a few photos today!

As part of the celebration, we’ll be giving away two prize packs for Luna’s Second Gotcha Day!

TWO lucky Beagles and Bargains readers will receive a Prize Pack!

Each prize pack will contain as much pet related swag that can fit in a medium flat rate box. Possible contents include jerky treats, frisbees, tennis balls, key chains, squeaky toys, collars, bandanas, and MORE! The prize pack contents will be a mystery!

Honestly never heard of Gotcha Day till now!

  • Theresa Spaid

My girl Nakita died last year after being with me for 11 years. September is the month I got her from the shelter. She loved her treats so actually everyday was a celebration for her. Gotcha days just a little more treats. Miss her

  • Linda Szymoniak

I have five Treeing Walker Coonhounds and three cats – so we have a total of 8 “gotcha” days and 8 birthdays (in the case of 2 of them we have actual birth dates, but with the others we have estimated dates based on the age the shelter estimated them at). In five of the cases the birthday and gotcha days are only a couple of weeks apart, so I typically only celebrate once. This year, since my Kenji and Seiji have theirs only a couple of weeks apart, I took the two of them to Petsmart and got special treats for all five of the dogs (and I stopped at a drive-up window for food for my husband, and the lady there gave me some extra fries for the boys). I’ll do something special for each, although it often depends on things like weather and what else is going on for me. But, I do give them at least a little “party” with the rest of the pack and do something like take them on an extra run to Petsmart or for an extra walk just for them.

  • Jackie Preas

I had also never heard of it but it sounds pretty cool.I know we picked up our boy on April 21 so he will get something special on that date too now.Love being able to celebrate these days.

I never heard of gotcha days before, but I love the idea and Luna is so darn adorable. My dog’s gotcha day would be the same as his birthday though. His mama lived at my house because she was my son’s girlfriends pet and they were staying with me, so right after he was born I picked him to be mine.

  • Claudia Duarte

gotcha days? never heard…lol. does it is mean when i got Blue? its fain…but i do give him extra love on his Birthday… and just love being together with him as much as possible…I love Blue so much!..

    • beaglesbargains

Yup! A Gotcha Day is the day you adopted or brought your pet home. I think it became popular because many rescue pets don’t have known birthdays. Some people choose to guess or randomly pick a birthday and others celebrate their Gotcha Day. We do both because we love to celebrate!

      • Claudia Duarte

Oh oh kays, i see now… i must find out Blues gotcha day! Oh girlie I forgot to tell you, I Love Lunas pics so adorable…especially the one shes sitting down and she has food on her mouth..lol. love it!..

  • Kyla Patton

We don’t celebrate “Gotcha Days” but we celebrate Luma’s birthday πŸ™‚ I make her some special homemade treats, get her a new toy, take her for a nice walk and we play lots with her. At the end of the day when everyone is tired we collapse on the couch together to snuggle and watch a movie or show.

  • Marci Richie Wright

    • beaglesbargains

We guestimated Luna’s birthday too! We picked March 21. I guess she is lucky because her Gotcha Day and Birthday are split pretty evenly throughout the year! Happy Early Birthday to Kronos!

  • Ruth Griffeth

I kinda started to celebrate Gotcha Day’s with my girl,Halo , but since we found out her Birthday falls on mine, Halo and I celebrate our birthdays together. We Adopted Halo from the pound a pure breed Cocker Spaniel, both her and her brother were at the pound and it broke my heart to separate them, but only one could come home. Halo has never been the average yippy ball of zip most Cockers are she is the most mellow I have seen. She was a year old when we got her in Dec. on the 16th, she is so smart and loves everyone. caution attack dog might lick you to death! I love her so much she went from the boys dog to mom’s in a matter of days.
