Have you ever tried out those fancy meal delivery boxes like Blue Apron or HelloFresh and then wondered why there wasn’t a similar meal system for your dogs? Well you’re in luck! I recently learned about NomNomNow, a subscription based food service made specifically for your dog and their nutritional needs.
Ralph and Luna had the chance to try out NomNomNow first hand. Over the last month, we’ve been running a taste and overall wellness test on this brand-new-to-me type of dog food. We were checking to see how the pups did on the food overall as well as their enjoyment of their new meals.
NomNomNow is a subscription based service that delivers fresh, cooked to order dog food right to your door. The meals are perfectly portioned to meet your dog’s needs. Each one is individually packaged in a recyclable plastic pouch.
Though recipes are not customized for each dog, they have 5 recipes available that are balanced and formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. The portion size is designed to suit your dog’s caloric needs based on their age, weight, and activity level.
Price is determined from those three factors along with which recipe you choose, so larger, more active, and younger dogs will all cost a bit more.
Each order is cooked to order and made with human grade ingredients. NomNomNow describes it as “Good enough for you. Ideal for them.” All 5 recipes are made with meat, vegetables, healthy oils, and a vitamin and nutrient blend. There are no additives or artificial ingredients.
How Does NomNomNow Work?
Right now, NomNomNow is working for full force in the 9 western most states of the USA. To sign up, you first visit the NomNomNow website and fill out a short questionnaire about your dog(s). Then you select the recipe you would like them to try from the five available options – Heartland Beef Mash, Tasty Turkey Fare, Chicken Chow-Wow, Porkalicious Potluck, and Egg & Veggie Medley.
The website will tell you the price for a week’s worth of food, but you can save 50% off your first two orders with promo code BNB52. The cost will be determined by the age, weight, and activity level of your dog along with the recipe you selected. If you have multiple dogs, you can also inquire about possible discounts.

Once you place your order, you will be shipped out a week’s worth of food for your dog. The food is always fresh, never frozen! Each order contains 14 individually packaged meals – 2 meals a day for 7 days. The first time you order your meals will be packaged specifically so that your dog can easily transition from their previous diet. Portions will be smaller and range from 25%, 50%, 75%, and a full portion size.
The freshly cooked meals are kept cool during shipping with a combination of insulated material and ice packs. Though the ice packs are frozen, the meals never are. We received two shipments and both were still fresh and cool when I opened up the boxes.
Since NomNomNow is subscription based, you will be set up for auto-delivery each week. However, you can cancel or pause at any time. You can also easily change your method of payment, delivery information, and dog details. You can also switch between the available recipes if that is what your dog desires!
Shipping nationwide is still in beta, so it’s a little different. Since we’re located on the East Coast, we tested out their beta nationwide delivery method rather than receiving weekly meals.
If you live anywhere other than the 9 western most United States, NomNomNow currently ships out a month’s worth of food instead of a week. They do this because their kitchen is located in California and shipping restrictions. However, they are working hard so that shipping nationwide will mirror the current system they have on the West Coast.
The biggest downside of their beta shipping method is that you will have to freeze about 3 weeks worth of food yourself. This takes up a lot of freezer space, which is prime real estate in our house.
Because you freeze the meals, you also have to defrost them which is one more step to feeding your dogs. However, it is super easy. We did a combination of thawing out in the fridge and running the pouches under warm water.
NomNomNow Unboxing and Taste Test
The video below will help give you and idea of what it’s like to use NomNomNow’s subscription service and show just how much Ralph & Luna enjoyed their Porkalicious Potluck.
Overall the dogs loved their NomNomNow meals immensely. They enjoyed the meals so much that even when I tried to do a photo shoot after they had already eaten breakfast, Luna couldn’t resist the tasty morsels.
Health-wise the dogs also seem to be doing great with their new diet. We’ve had no major health issues and their skin + coats and overall energy levels have been great. The biggest change? They poop way less! Still typically two times a day, but the size is much smaller. Perhaps because they have fewer fillers and overall waste in their diet.
The ease of feeding a freshly cooked meal via NomNomNow was extraordinary. All you need is a pair of scissors and you are good to go! The only real downside of our NomNomNow experience was the decreased freezer space since we received monthly shipments instead of weekly.
If you are looking for an easy to prepare, human grade, cooked to order meal option for your dog, but don’t mind paying a premium price, I would absolutely recommend NomNomNow. The prices for NomNomNow are on the higher end, but the quality and ease of use make it worthwhile if you can fit it in your budget. Remember, buy the best you can afford when it comes to your dog’s diet!
