Yesterday I posted about our recent shopping spree. One of my purchases was the JW Hol-ee Roller. I mentioned that it was more of a toy for me than for Luna. This is because I bought it with a thrifty activity in mind.

Luna is an expert fluff (AKA toy guts) remover. No toy can stand a chance. She is also very food motivated. She will do anything for a snack.

That is why I turned the Roller Ball into a destuffable, food dispensing toy.

What does that mean?

It means Luna gets to rip out stuffing over and over again while finding delicious treats and it is reusable!

Supplies need for thrifty JW Hol-ee Roller Ball

To make your own, all you need is three things:
1 JW Hol-ee Roller Ball size appropriate for your dog
Plenty of scraps of fabric cut into strips – I used old socks, but you could use old t-shirts or any strips of fabric
A handful of small treats

Layer socks and treats in JW Hol-ee Roller Ball

Once you have gathered the supplies, stuff the strips of fabric into the Roller Ball while layering with the treats.

A Stuffed JW Hol-ee Roller Ball

Luna loves ripping out the old socks and finding the treats. It usually takes her a few minutes to find all of them, but the difficulty can be increased or decreased depending on how many treats and pieces of fabric are stuffed into the ball.

Be warned: your house might be suddenly covered in old socks.

Are your dogs expert fluff removers too?

That is an excellent idea! Torrey got over the desire to de-stuff everything, or I would be trying this.

Luna is definitely getting better. Now she doesn’t rip all the stuffing out, just most of it ( :

Mom is thankful that we aren’t destuffing types. We might gnaw on things or tear them by accident but we don’t like pulling out the stuffing.

I bet your toys last a lot longer too! I wish Luna wasn’t as much into removing the stuffing, but she loves it. I just have to think of creative ways to entertain her and find bargain toys because I know they won’t last very long!

Get it Luna!! Those balls are awesome! We had two of them. A larger and a small one. I recently took the small one to the shelter with me and one of our lil gals made it her own. Titan still loves the larger one. I stuff socks into as well as treats. He loves a challenge so getting those treats and socks out is a game all in it’s own! Glad Luna likes it!

That was so nice of you and Titan to let them keep the ball! Luna loves the challenge too especially because it ends in getting treats!

Luna loves the challenge! I was so happy she liked it.

  • This is an awesome idea! Izzie loves to disembowel toys, and she loves treats, so she would totally get in to this!

Izzie sounds just like Luna! Let me know if you give it a try. I’d love to hear how Izzie likes it!

Thanks for that idea. I am going to try that to keep our beagle busy and maybe our pitt mix too. That is awesome for a beagle.
